Harley has been called up to the Lancashire Under 16 squad as he makes the next step on his dream to be a professional footballer.

Left winger Harley, 15, is at Accrington Stanley’s Academy and was part of the Lancashire Under 14 side which reached the ESFA Boys Under 14 Playstation Inter County Trophy final two years ago.

Harley has been at League One Accrington Stanley since he was 13, after being released from Burnley.

“I was gutted to be released, I had moved from left wing to centre half and I was released I think for being too small.

“I was determined that I wouldn’t drop out of football and I went on a two week trial at Accrington and they offered me a scholarship, I think I was one of the youngest to get one.

“I have trained with the Under 18s, the Under 23s and the first team a couple of times which is a confidence boost.”
At Under 14 level, Blessed Trinity put him forward for county trials and this time Lancashire put him forward for their Under 16 trials.

“I think around 100 lads went for trials and they picked 16. We have only played one game so far.

“I like playing for Lancashire, it’s a bit less pressure than when I am playing for Accrington as that’s my future.

“My dream is to be a professional footballer. A couple of lads from Burnley, such as Ross Sykes and Lewis Mansell, who was also at Blessed Trinity, have gone from Accrington’s Academy into the first team so there is a pathway there.”
